Our First Golf Day – We Raised Over £2800

The First Foxtrot Oscar Cancer Golf Day.

Since the inception of Foxtrot Oscar Cancer we have been hoping to start putting on events to raise funds for our cause of sending cancer patients to sporting events. A golf day was always on the agenda and we managed to get this over the line and we hosted the first Golf day on the 23rd April at Slinfold Golf & Country Club just outside Horsham.

So firstly thank you to Slinfold for hosting the day and making us so welcome, we took over the Clubhouse with our Merchandise and the course with our banners and the staff made us so welcome all day! The course at Slinfold has a lovely mix of holes offering scoring opportunities for high and low handicappers and is well known for the 10th Hole where you have to drive over the water.

The course itself was in good condition on the day despite the horrendous rain across April making the course wet under foot it was still playable the greens were playing slow at the start due to the rain before speeding up a little as the day went on and then slowing down as the rain came back!

The day got off to a nice start with Bacon Rolls & Coffee before then heading out on to the course, we used an app called Squabbit on the day for scoring which allowed for live scoring on the course which made it more fun as the lead kept changing hands and a number of people using the chat function for some banter! O’Hara Financial Planning kindly sponsored 2 Longest Drives & 2 Nearest The Pins out on the course! A huge thank you to the 18 companies that sponsored the holes helping to raise vital funds and an even bigger thank you to The Sim Studio, Createspace Garden Rooms & Copper Coffee Roasters who paid for the banners seen around the course on the day these are amazing thank you and can be reused so are an awesome resource for Foxtrot Oscar Cancer!

The Results were as follows 1st Place Duncan Holmes, 2nd Place Richard Haycock and 3rd Place Mathew Heal and the wooden spoon went to Jason Mahan!

The raffle followed in which we gave away over £2000 in prizes so thank you to everyone who donated a prize this went a long way to raising funds!

Ultimately the day was about raising awareness of Foxtrot Oscar Cancer and we certainly reached new people and in the clubhouse acquired lots of new followers who bought merchandise or asked what we were doing!

Thank you to Reedyography for providing photography and sponsoring the trophy as well the plan is for more of these events so watch this space!
